Find out about the Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre’s newest platform for student poetry.
On Tuesday 22 March, Oxford Brookes held its first annual Poetry Showcase online, organised by Dr. Niall Munro, the Director of Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre.
The event shared the work of ten poetry talents, including current undergraduate, Masters and PhD Creative Writing students.
Poems ranged in subject matter from topics such as sexual violence, grief, and female empowerment, to examining the smaller, more minute things in life, such as how the seasons can evoke memories of the past.
Here’s what English Literature and Creative undergraduate student and poet Pearlcya James had to say about the event:
“It was really lovely to have a mutual sense of accomplishment and appreciation for poetry. It was very inspiring to hear other poets’ work and the story behind their writing and bring my poetry to the table.”
The poets who took part were: Wendy Allen, Susie Campbell, Virginia Combs, Laetitia Erskine, Emily Fox, Pearlcya James, Helena Marie, Laura Newport, Ed Roffe, and Aime Wren.

The showcase included Wendy Allen’s reading of ‘Sex Life’, recently published in Ambit Magazine.
Congratulations to all the poets whose work was showcased!
